Hi! And, apologies that this is so long. Standard disclaimer, this is just what I'm doing, and ideas I've put into my game, if you want to use any of it, please take and use for your own purposes. If you have different ideas, use those! I love published DnD adventures, pre-written modules that provide me with dungeons and monsters and a story, but I'm also a firm believer that a pre-written adventure provides you with the very base level of content you need to get your game going. The limitations of pagecount mean that the writers have to be as concise as possible, and often can't expand too much or provide extra details. I like to provide them myself. So let's talk about Dannika Graysteel. I love her quest, I love how not every quest involves going out to a dungeon and fighting monsters, and here we have a scholar who just wants to research her theory about elementals, and you can help her out with a bunch of fun roleplay encounters, and no initiative rolls. It adds a bit more depth to the world, and it adds variety. Dannika herself has very little text describing her, she's a half elf, she has a theory, she'll pay you to bring her a nature spirit. I have so many questions. QUESTIONS First of all, she has a theory that Chwinga's might possess the key to solving the Dale's sun problem... What is the theory? how would a relatively weak nature spirit be able to help at all? Can she expand on those theories? Second, how long has she been in the vale, what are her interests and skills, she mentions having "other research" - is she a source of answers for questions the PCs might have about the world? Third... 25gp is not a huge reward, but an expensive magic item for a relatively simple task? It seems like a rather large reward, unless she's particularly wealthy, or she's been frustrated and really needs an answer soon. Fourth, why is she in the Dales researching this in the first place? her dislike of the cold and relatively recent arrival suggest she's not from around these parts, where IS she from? Fifth, why would a scholar trust a ragtag bunch of strangers she's never met with her expensive magical lantern? what if they just run off? Sixth, if Dannika is a scholar researching elementals, how come she has the mechanical stats of a low level cleric? The book doesn't say what deity she serves, who might that be? For me, Dannika represents an excellent example of where the content of the book is very top-level, and there's a wealth of room to expand. Thinking about these questions in advance will help change her from a brief "well met, here's a quest / thanks for doing the quest here's a reward" to a well-rounded character who the party can befriend, perhaps come back to with their problems, and who can serve as a source of vital information about the world at large if they get stuck. So... here's what I've got, what I've changed, and what I'll be running in my game. Fleshing out her story and giving her a more proactive bent means I have a better idea how to voice her and what she's like. PERSONALITY AND APPEARANCE Dannika is a bit of a closeted scholar. She's not really comfortable with outdoors or strenuous activity, preferring to devote her time to reading and study. She's enthusiastic about her work and tends to babble about minor details that are of no interest to anyone other than herself. She tends to get sidelined and ignored, or dismissed as a kook. In truth, she's a fairly gifted arcane theorist, but very little of her research has any practical use, so she's desperate to find a breakthrough to "prove" herself. However, beyond her theories and knowledge, she has very few skills she's developed to help her solve problems. Dannika acts and behaves a little bit like Evie in the first Mummy film. HISTORY: Dannika is a student wizard with the arcane brotherhood, a fledgling scholar who lucked her way into the organization through a clerical error that the brotherhood were too embarrassed to correct. She's been spending her time frantically trying to complete an arcane thesis in order to earn the respect of the organization and a proper rank. Her speciality is in the research of elementals and their habits, which she has an affinity for, and she came to the dales to study Chwingas as a ready source of relatively harmless elementals. I do change her stats from having basic cleric spells to having basic (utility) wizard spells, including Identify, which the party don't have. Dannika put in a requisition for some expedition funds with the archivist at the brotherhood, and was granted the use of several magical items, as well as a fund of 1000gp. Not really having much worldly experience, she didn't realize or question why she was given so much, but it's extremely odd. In truth, the Arcane Brotherhood has set aside a fund for wizards traveling to the Dales to tackle the Reghed Glacier issue, and the archivist's paperwork didn't mention which Arcanists were cleared to mount trips. Other members of the Arcane Brotherhood in the adventure might not be too happy with her if they meet her. Since that moment, Dannika has spent a month or so holed up at the Northlook in Bryn Shandar, asking the locals who pass through for any information about Chwingas, and getting nowhere. Eventually she hears stories of a magical colour-changing lantern in Caer-Konig, and with little to go on other than the hunch it might also be a lantern of elemental tracking, she decides to make a trip. SESSION ZERO. Dannika hires a dogsled, and recruits some of the PCs in session zero to escort her to Caer Dineval, where she ends up hearing from Roark that the lantern in Caer-Konig has no special properties other than magic that makes it cycle through pretty colours. Dejected, she spends the night at his inn. (Roark doesn't redirect her and the two PCs she's with to the Caer, they don't look like a force that could solve the problems in Caer-Dineval. Yet. The PCs who escorted meet up with the rest of the party in Caer-Dineval though, a ragtag group on their way in the other direction, largely for reasons based on their individual backstories and secrets. They're going to Bryn Shander. Frustrated, cold, disheartened and realizing she's not cut out for extensive travel in the extreme cold, Dannika starts regretting her decisions to leave the relative warmth and safety of the Northlook. She asks her escorts to return her to Bryn-Shandar, and offers to the rest of the PCs a ride on her sled, since "the roads are dangerous, and there's safety in numbers". Session zero is planned to be a little short for content, as half the session involves the PCs introducing their characters to each other and settling in, so I have The PCs starting the adventure escorting Dannika from Caer-Dineval to Bryn-Shander, and on the way they get attacked by some wolf-clan goblins riding dire wolves. They fend off the assault heroically, and Dannika is very thankful and relieved to return to the relative safety of the inn in Bryn-Shander. She tells the PCs to meet her in the northlook in the morning, she has a job for them. She also pays for their rooms and drinks for the night. This runaround feels relatively unsuccessful to the PCs, other than they get to meet a new friend, and get paid. They also get the impression that something funky is going down in Caer-Dineval. Mostly this trip serves to introduce them to an NPC, get some travel in, have a fight, earn some coin. What it ALSO does, is give Dannika a reason to trust them, and even feel a little embarrassed and indebted that she "wasted their time". She's willing to offer a large reward if they can accomplish what she's been failing to do for months. Note: the shape of this goose chase isn't at all a suggestion for your group, it's just what I needed to do to get my group to join up, given their starting goals and motivations and stories. What more can Dannika bring to the adventure First of all. Dannika is a friend of the party, relatively firmly entrenched in a fixed location that the party's travels will pass through regularly. Whenever they're in Bryn Shander, they have the opportunity to drop in and chat with her, and she'll be happy to meet them and talk about how her research is going. She's also a potential well of knowledge about the local history, geography, fauna and so on, if they have any questions or need a second opinion or need pointing in the right direction. She might also hear of local news and be able to point them towards new jobs and the like. Secondly, Dannika's Chwinga theory might have some merit, as the story progresses, she becomes increasingly convinced that a large number of Chwingas, working together with their strange natural magic, may be able to coax the sun out, at least for a little bit. If the party can bring her more Chwingas, potentially lots of them, she'll arrange for this to happen at a moment of their choosing, and if the party are smart, they might be able to set this up to coincide with their visit to Auril's fortress in chapter 5. The Chwingas won't succeed but they'll provide a necessary distraction while the PCs make their visit. Thirdly. Dannika does know a fair bit about the Arcane Brotherhood, although she's a bit shy and scatterbrained and doesn't like talking about it much because she kinda feels maybe she's in trouble with them. Token Because I'm running online, I needed a combat token for her, so I made one. In my mind, she's very dorky https://www.socksandpuppets.com/tabletop/tokens/Dannika.png

Simply put, delaying all your movies is not going to save them from loosing money. This is all my own opinion and speculation, feel free to discuss if you think otherwise. There are two major reasons for this:
Once it’s safe to go to the movies, significantly less people are going to go. Yes, the Marvel fans will burst into theatres, but a lot of casual movie watchers are going to be comfortable just staying home.
Once it is deemed ‘safe’ to open theatres, there are going to be a lot of new movies released within a short space of time, and many people are unlikely to want to go see all of them, meaning each film is going to make less money anyway.
And all of this is even assuming that the pandemic is somehow magically gone by May? Forgive me if my research is wrong but it looks like the US is still getting thousands of new cases every day?? It is stupid blind faith to think that covid will be contained enough to fill theatres in May. This is also assuming that no theatres have to close permanently due to lack of business, which I expect could happen.
Now Disney, please consider the international market.
There are many theatres worldwide that are open and need business! You can’t claim to want to ‘save theatres’ if you neglect the ones that are open and ready to show your movies. Start small. Release Wendy. It had a limited US release earlier this year, but since then I’m not sure if it’s had any wide releases. At least in NZ it hasn’t and it’s not on VOD or Disney+. I was lucky enough to be able to see it at the New Zealand International Film Festival a couple months ago, and I really enjoyed it. It’s a new movie, it’s a nostalgic story. There are people that will go to see it. It would at least give movie theatres something. And you can release it at drive-in theatres in the US and on Disney+ a month or two later. Now I’m going to be selfish and specifically ask that you consider New Zealand. Frankly, you’re taking advantage of us. You’re still safely making movies here, eg. Avatar, but you aren’t willing to safely release any movies in our theatres? I felt especially angry when you didn’t release Mulan in theatres for us. I would have happily gone to see it. You used our wonderful country to make your movie, and I’m told you didn’t even let the film’s crew see it in a theatre. That’s messed up.
What I think you should do with Black Widow etc:
I honestly think you should stick to your release schedule. Get something out there this year that isn’t a soulless remake. As I said before, I think these movies could still lose money in May. Just release them now, simultaneously online and in theatres everywhere where theatres are open. And I’ve got an idea to help with your online roll out, because people clearly weren’t happy with the $30 ‘Premiere access’ for Mulan. Cut the price in half. Make Premier Access only $15. That way it’s no more than $25 to subscribe and get the movie. Also, hold it in Premier Access for at least six months. You were really stupid to announce that Mulan would be available at no additional cost in December. In addition to this, consider releasing the film on regular VOD for a $30 purchase. There are people who can’t afford or don’t want to subscribe to a new streaming service, but would still love to see your movie. Perhaps that can be a month or two after the Disney+/theatre release.
Just release your movies! On all platforms that are available! You don’t know how long this pandemic is going to last, and you cannot rely on theatres to save your movies, especially if you do nothing to save them.
2020.09.24 01:06 fondrenbellHelp. I think my degree is worthless?
I graduated in 2017 with a BS degree in Communications. I took a break from college after the death of a loved one and didn't plan on "completing" my degree until my parents insisted and helped finance it. The particular school I went to uses the Comm department to funnel graduates into local news stations. I hate news and I hated my hometown. A year ago I moved to the nearest metro and liked it for a while. I took the skills I learned and picked up a lot of freelance jobs as aPA for commercials and film. However, that's not a full time career and with COVID it practically doesn't exist anymore. My parents agreed to help me get certified or learn a new trade but I'm lost. I currently freelance as a private tutor and while I really like working with kids I have no interest in being a teacher. I love love love research, I love homework, I love figuring out how to communicate with different parties. What are some certifications I should look into? Or even, hell, a new major? Thanks for your help. I'm exhausted looking at online jobs and realizing I don't meet the criteria for nearly anything. If this is the wrong sub I apologize.
2020.09.24 01:01 RobinAnonymousI’m a cast member in your favourite TV show, and I’m being held hostage.
I need to be quick, before they figure out I'm not on set, so sorry for mistakes. I wrote everything below last night, and I'm posting it now on a throw-away phone on public Wi-fi. It's been two days since I've taken the pill, so I'm feeling clearheaded enough. My name is Robin. I'm twenty-five years old, and I'm being held prisoner. Robin isn't my real name, but I'm going to change it for obvious reasons. I play a main character in a well-known TV show which is currently airing. You've probably seen it on one of the big networks or streaming services. Most of you will know my character, though I'm not sure about me. I wouldn't say I'm A-list. But our show does have a lot of fans. I'm writing this, because I recently talked to a friend (who is also going through this ordeal with me.) He's out of it most of the time, but there were slithers in conversation when he mentioned this website. He said this place is where people can tell stories, real or fake. And you guys can either believe me, or chalk what I'm going to tell you down to a glamorised fan-fiction written by someone with an over active imagination. It's also the best place for me to tell it. I can't get into trouble, because I guess it's a story. This is the only place I can reach out to. I'll start from the beginning. I'm going to change the names of the characters/cast members to remain anonymous so this can't be traced back to me. The character I play is called Katie Parker. I've been playing her for almost three years. Katie was my first real acting gig. I've been cast in movies and shows before, but Katie was my way into real fame. I've met some great people since then, and my cast mates are like my second family. Katie was the reason I moved to LA and took a chance on what I thought would be a small role. The show wasn't expected to get so big, and before I knew it, I was attending press days and going to my first ever Teen Choice Awards, and San Diego Comic Con. It was crazy. Surreal. I could work with my best friends and earn money for doing what I loved. It seemed like a dream come true. And it was. At least for the first few years. I loved the show. It was something I could believe in. I connected so well to Katie, because she suffered with the same problems as me (anxiety and depression). The show from the start wanted to be different, and I respected that. It wanted to take elements from other TV drama's, and mix them together, creating something brand new and innovative. And it worked. Our head writers were brothers, collaboratively working on the show. They were passionate about the plot and characters, especially Katie, and often let me have creative input, which allowed me to connect to my character properly, which made it easier to play her. If I'm honest I felt like I was playing myself. Trouble arose when we finished season one. Again, we didn't know the show was going to go so well. Our writers had a perfect ending, which tied up all the loose ends. We had already filmed it, and despite adoring Katie, I was happy with the ending. Part of me was praying for a season two, but we all collaboratively agreed our initial ending was great. I remember we all went out for a cast meal, and the subject came up. Season two. We were all definitely hoping for one, and knew the writers had ideas if we were green lit. At that point, I was practically high on the thought of another season. And who could have blamed me? Another 13 whole episodes to film with my best friends? It was the dream. And weeks later? We were commissioned for season two. I can't put into words how happy I was! I remember being at home when it was announced, and I screamed. I just screamed and screamed until my parents, who I was visiting at the time, asked me if I was okay. The next few months went by in a blur. I was blown away how big our show had gotten. People came up to me at the airport, calling me Katie. It was crazy. Like I was living this insane dream. Season two was different. Though I was expecting it. I did notice the writing had gotten lazy, though. Katie's storylines went from normal problems, to progressively more bizarre plots that I could no longer call relatable. It reached a point when Katie became a separate person all together, and playing her started to make me feel uncomfortable. Our fans started to notice the deteriorating writing, and then our show began its downwards spiral. The writers were writing for shock value, instead of actual engaging plot. We were left baffled, and couldn't say anything, because we weren't allowed. At the end of season two, it only got more and more insane. Which again, made sense. The whole point of the show was to be different, but the writers took it to a whole other level. Season three is when everything kind of blew up in my face. I wasn't excited to be green lit for another season. None of us were. The spark had gone, and the show was starting to gain attention for how crazy it had gotten. My friends and family started asking questions, and they urged me to quit. As far as they were concerned, the show was a joke. As were myself and the other cast members. We became a joke. People weren't laughing with us. They were laughing at us. At characters we worked so hard to make real, only for the writers to make them barely recognisable. It was infuriating, but I wasn't allowed to speak out. If I liked a post on Instagram which was making fun of the show, I'd get none stop texts telling me to unlike it, before the fans caught wind of my true feelings. I was contracted to defend it. So I did. In every interview, I made sure to speak only good things about Katie. Even when her character was as good as dead to me. I ignored the sceptical look on interviewers faces when I told them how much I loved the show and characters, and made sure I smiled. We were told that so many times it was practically drilled into us. We had to smile. But I didn't want to smile. I knew our fans were wondering if I was okay, because in almost every photo, I looked tired and fed up. The others were the same, and that thought kept me sane. For every nauseating question I'd be asked about Katie's sex life, we would exchange discreet rolled eyes and secret smiles. Throughout the day I kept getting the overwhelming urge to stand up, and leave. And never go back. But I kept going, because part of me was still holding onto faith that the show would get better. I did fall in love with it, after all. Plus, I was with my best friends. I didn't want to quit the show, and leave them. Even if Katie, as well as the show itself were emotionally draining me. We started season 3 like normal. Obviously this year it was different. Comic con didn't happen because of the pandemic. Though there were small press appearances with social distancing measures in place. I spent a lot of time with family over the Summer, and didn't travel at all. So when it came to heading back to film after giving the go-ahead, I was excited to the see the others. I knew the show was still a mess, but working with them was something I loved to do, regardless of bad writing. Things were different, however. I knew as soon as I arrived, that the atmosphere in the writers room was stifling. When I sat down, I almost felt suffocated. We'd already had script meetings on Zoom, and they seemed to go fine. As soon as I stepped foot inside, something was wrong. The secondary cast members were absent, which already set off alarm bells in my head. Normally, everybody was present for script read-through's. So when it was just the five of us, surrounded by writers and crew members, I felt like I was in a lions den. They were all stony faced, and I immediately thought I'd done something wrong. Our head writer, James Marley was sitting at the head of the table, a long rectangle we all gathered around for our first in person script read. His brother, Derek, was nowhere to be seen. I later found out that Derek had quit the show over so-called "creative differences". Normally, everyone would be talking animatedly and laughing. But our writers were silent. My cast mates sat around me, looking uncomfortable. The night before, we'd gathered at another cast member Noah's apartment. We talked about the show, and after exchanging stories about how absurd our characters had become, we agreed we would leave if it got worse. The show was ruining any chance of a serious career for any of us. There were five of us that night. Me and Noah, who plays my on-screen love interest on the show. As well as Izzy, Rory and Lana. They play three other main characters. Noah declared that as a cast, we were done. If the writing continued to deteriorate, and I knew it would, we were going to leave together. Noah said he knew people who could easily get us out of the contract, so we thought we didn't have to worry about that. Though I was still sceptical. It seemed unlikely he'd know people high enough to take down TV executives, but I trusted him. We kept our decision to leave the show under wraps. If the writers/producers found out, we'd be in trouble. No matter how much I hated the show at that point, fans still love it. They still love Katie, and if we left, that meant them finding new cast members. I didn't want to upset anyone. Especially our fans. But being there was driving me insane. I couldn't look at another script, and let them ruin Katie even more. So, we were sitting around the writers table, and I was sweating. Bad. I didn't know if I was getting sick, or just anxiety, but my hands were clammy around my script. Part of me wondered if somehow the writers had caught onto our pact. Though that was crazy, right? It was just the five of us hanging out. I got my answer when James spoke up, giving me a condescending nod across the table. His voice was no longer friendly, more of a growl. He asked me where I was planning on going when I left the show. I was speechless. Had one of the other cast members told him? I knew they wouldn't have, so how did he know? My heart was pounding, and it no longer felt like a script read-through. It was an interrogation. Rory jumped up to go to the bathroom, no doubt to escape the awkwardness. But he was ushered back to his seat. I should have noticed that. The way they manhandled my friend, shoving him back into his spot next to Izzie. Maybe then I might have realised that something was seriously wrong. That we needed to get the hell out of there. But I could feel a panic attack brewing. My heart was doing acrobatics, and I felt like I couldn't breathe. Like all the breath had been sucked from my lungs. I stared down at my script and read over the same highlighted line over and over again until my eyes were blurring with tears. I couldn't bring myself to look up and face him. Which was crazy. James had always felt like a friend, so why was he acting like that? At the corner of my eye, Izzie was reaching over to comfort me, but James snapped at her, telling the girl to leave me alone. Noah looked like he was going to step in, but I somehow managed to coax words out of my throat. That was the moment I had a chance to leave. At least I thought I did. The words were tangled in my throat, but I couldn't say them. I was too scared to. So I told James I didn't know what he was talking about. It was all I could say. My throat was dry like sand paper, and I felt like I was going to be sick. Instead of interrogating me further, he asked us to hand over our phones. Which was like a kick in the gut. I used Instagram a lot to document long nights of filming, or hanging out with the others. It was harmful playing around, I didn't understand why he wanted them. Twisting around in my chair, I noticed the only door was blocked. The others noticed this too, but they just gave us some lame excuse, explaining it was so we could concentrate fully on the script. "Bullshit." Noah had argued, but he was ignored. When we refused to give them our phones, our contracts were brought up, and we were threatened. What with, I'm not sure. James spoke so convoluted, I couldn't understand what he was saying. Though maybe that was the point. He sounded like he was talking in tongues, and went through each section of our contract with this vindictive smile I don't think I'll ever get out of my head. He was triumphant. And looking around at my cast mates, I knew we were fighting a losing battle. The threats worked. With every single person in that room against us, we stood down. We handed over our phones, and that was their first step in taking control of our lives. It sounds stupid that something as small as handing over your phone can change everything. But I had no idea what doing that would do. I'd let go of my one connection to our fans, as well as my family and friends. Initially, it was just small things that changed. We weren't allowed our phones, and our social media's were taken over, the passwords changed. I figured that was just in case we went live and told everyone we were planning on leaving. I tried several times to try the "forget your password" trick. But the account had just been set to a different email address. My manager was quiet, so I guess she was on their side. Though I'm not surprised, she was good friends with James. Before they took my phone, I texted her I wanted to leave, and she read it, but didn't reply. So we were on our own with crumbling resources. But things weren't overly bad at that point. Despite knowing it was a bad idea to speak out, we planned to go to every media outlet we could think of, and report them for threatening us, as well as giving us shady contracts. Lana argued that it was impossible. That it would be their word against ours, but Noah was insistent. He said, if we made it public then the fans would side with us. I believed him. Our fans are passionate about the show, so I crossed my fingers. Weeks went by, and I started to notice a change on set, even if I was expecting it. The following script read through's had been almost painfully awkward. It wasn't just the phone thing, as well as getting our socials hijacked. I felt like I was being forced to play this character. Set life was no longer fun. It was draining, and all I seemed to get was passive aggressive smiles from crew members I knew hated me. It's weird, it's like James had cast a spell across set, making sure everyone I walked past sneered at me, or made some backhanded comment about the five of us being "difficult". I used to be friendly with them. I used to share my lunch with them and make jokes. But I found myself avoiding them at all costs. I hid away in my trailer a lot. With no phone and laptop (which they also took away) I was bored. So I read books in between shoots. I used to visit the others, but they always separated us, making sure we couldn't talk to each other. If I wanted to see Izzie, she'd be trapped in hair and make up, and the boys would on set. I tried multiple times to talk to secondary cast members, and sure, they nodded and smiled, but it's like they weren't listening to me. Like my words were going in one ear, and straight out the other. The crew knew we didn't want to be there. So they treated us differently. Even if we happened to be the main cast. It was discreet, so no other cast members caught on, but it was the type of low-key bullying I saw at high school. They would talk behind my back, or even in front of my face, trying to gaslight me into thinking I was the one in the wrong. That I was some spoiled brat who was throwing a fit because the show wasn't going the way I wanted. I decided I was going to quit, regardless of what James threatened us with. I didn't care anymore. I just wanted to go home, and forget everything. Forget the show, and Katie, like it was a bad dream. The others were going to come with me. Rory's the youngest out of us. He's from England. So he and the others were going to stay at my parents for a while. At least until we figured things out. I hadn't told my parents yet, but they knew I was heading over for Thanksgiving, which was only a few months away. I knew they would be fine with extra guests. They've met my cast mates before, and I knew they were happy to self isolate at my parents house. It was better than staying. So, the five of us figured out a plan. We decided to go to a well-known entertainment tabloid and tell them everything, including the mistreatment and threats. When it was out there, broadcasted, we would be free. At least that's what I thought. I remember that day being boiling hot. There was no breeze and the humidity made my skin crawl. The air was dry, and on our usual ten hour shoot, I was barely keeping it together. I had to wear a thick sweater in ninety degree heat, and I felt like I was going to pass out. I was thirsty, but was rarely allowed to have a drink of water, despite my voice croaking. After the shoot, I was anticipating finally being able to tell our story. It was driving me nuts being on set, feeling judgemental eyes on me. Being general assholes was something I thought I could deal with. One more time. But refusing to let me drink water was just cruel and petty. It wasn't just me. The crew made sure to make all of our lives a misery. Izzie was fat shamed in front of everyone. James told her to lose weight, or her character would start losing "sexual appeal". They gave her smaller sized dresses during fittings and chastised her when she couldn't fit into a skirt. Izzie didn't fight back. She just stood there and took the abuse, nodding in all the right places. She tearfully agreed that she needed to go on a diet. So, enough was enough. We were going to expose the show, and get our lives back. I was no longer scared I was over reacting or paranoid. It was clear the show only cared about the characters. Katie was like gold to them, and I was nothing. The night we were going to start putting our plan into action, I felt sick with nerves. I got changed at the end of the shoot and grabbed my stuff, heading out to meet the others. The night prior Noah said he was going to use a friend's Instagram account and reach out to the tabloid. I know what you're thinking. We could have easily gotten a new phone each. But it's our accounts that labelled us official. If we made new ones, they would be taken down. We spend all day on set, so its easier for them to keep tabs on us, but Noah managed to get in touch with a friend. He didn't say the details. Just that he needed a verified account. Even if they didn't believe us, it would definitely be headline news. Heading out to the parking lot, I expected to see the usual. Noah and Rory sitting on the far wall, feet dangling, sharing a cigarette between them, and Lana and Izzie talking quietly together. Our usual routine was to get an Uber back to our apartment building. Since they took our phones, the show usually got us a ride. But that night, there was no sign of the others. I figured I'd wait for them. It wasn't out of the line of possibility that they were still on set. It was a cool night so I paced the parking lot. Without my phone to listen to music, I was bored. My legs were aching. I was in a daze, thinking up the best and worst case scenario's of our plan in my head, when I heard footsteps. I turned around with a smile, expecting to see my cast mates. I hadn't gotten a proper chance to speak to them all day, so I was itching to just talk to them and go over the plan. On set, they were the only people who made me feel safe and kept my sanity in check. Except it wasn't them. Instead of my four friends, I was staring at James. His smile was nauseating, but I forced myself to greet him. "Robin." He said, and gave me a curt nod. I smiled back, hoping a simple greeting would send him away. But he seemed overly happy about something. His eyes were glittering, a smirk pulling at his lips. James commented about the weather, and I nodded along, hoping he'd go away, hoping the others appeared. But they didn't. They were nowhere to be seen, and I was starting to realise they weren't coming. And from the look on his face, he knew I was panicking. My hands were jittering so I shoved them in my jeans pockets. He stayed silent for a whole minute, and I was sure I was going to pass out. I was convinced he was doing it on purpose. "Are you waiting for the Uber?" he asked. I told him I was, and he started laughing. Like I'd just told him a joke. "I didn't call one tonight." He said. My stomach twisted. "What?" James smiled, but there was no warmth in it. He shook his head like I was a child acting out. "You'll be staying somewhere else tonight. We've made alternative arrangements." He said it cheerily, but there was something in his tone which told me I had no choice. And I didn't. My parents lived three thousand miles away. I had no phone, and my cast mates had disappeared. I found myself nodding, even when burning bile was crawling up my throat. I wanted to ask where the others were, but James didn't seem inclined to tell me. The writer told me to grab my stuff, which was just my bag and jacket, and follow him to his car. I did, swallowing the urge to ask him where the others were. My heart was stampeding in my chest, and my mind was on overdrive. Did I start crying out for help? No, that was ridiculous. Anyone else would perceive what was happening as completely normal. James was giving me a ride to these so-called "alternative arrangements". But I knew something wasn't right. It wasn't helping that I still had no idea where my cast mates were. We had gone over every possible obstacle, every chance of something going wrong, whether it was big or small. All day we had communicated though nods and winks, silently sealing the deal. It didn't make sense that they would just disappear. The second I jumped into the backseat of his car, I knew James was aware of our plan, and he would stop at nothing to keep our mouths shut. The car ride was short, and I remember trying to figure out a way to dive out when he stopped the car, and just run for it. I had a twenty dollar note in my pocket. That's it. I'd left the rest of my belongings, like my credit card and purse at home. The twenty was originally for something to eat, but I was barely allowed a break between shoots. Grasping the money in my fist, I knew the twenty would get me cab fare to the city centre. From there I'd go to the police station and tell them everything. The area where we film is fairly remote, and I quickly realised James was going in an opposite direction to the city centre. I started to panic, especially when he sent me knowing glances through the mirror. He knew exactly where the other cast members were, and seeing me squirm was giving him a sickening satisfaction. "The others," I finally managed to choke out, when I twisted in my seat and only saw darkness through the window. There were barely any street lights, and I couldn't stop myself. It was like word vomit. "Where are they?" James didn't answer for a moment, and when I was sure I was going to throw up, he chuckled. "You're shaking," his voice was like splintered ice. "I don't know why you're sitting there acting like I'm driving you to your death. Pull yourself together." Gaining confidence, I sat up straight. "Where are you taking me?" I asked in a steady voice. "Where are the others?" "Others?" James switched on the radio and cranked it up, swaying in his seat to a slow song crackling through the speakers. He was playing mind-games. "Yes, the others." I said sharply. "What did you do to them?" His gaze didn't leave the road. "They're sick," he murmured. "Not the virus, I'm sure of it. The disease is inside their head, and I've sent them away to get better." Something cold slithered down my spine. "Sick?" My brain whirred with questions. What disease? What was he talking about? "Yes." He tapped the steering wheel, and my head started to pound. My cheeks felt like they were burning. Maybe I was sick. My stomach had been galloping all day. "Like you, Robin. The five of you have been showing symptoms all week, but we figured tonight would be the best time to send you to a place where you can get better." "Symptoms?" Was all I could say with the gutter of my throat. "What symptoms?" "Don't you worry about that right now, Robin," he hummed. "We're going to make you better. After all, we can't have you spewing your rambling delusions online, can we?" Before I could speak, he continued. His fingers were turning white gripping the steering wheel. "It's okay, Robin. We're going to help you. You don't want to embarrass yourself." No. I wanted to scream at him, but I felt like I was paralysed. He was making out like I was crazy, like we were crazy for wanting to leave the show. All of this because of a TV show. All because of Katie. That's all he wanted. James wanted Katie. I didn't cry. Crying would look pathetic. Crying would only add fuel to his fire that I was crazy. "I want to go home." The words were out of my mouth before I could stop them. I felt like a child. But I was scared. I was so fucking scared. James didn't reply after that, and I was left to my thoughts. My plan to make a run for it had fallen through. We were in the middle of nowhere. There was no way I could find a cab at the time of night, and I had no phone. No way to contact anyone. When James parked outside what looked like a rundown hotel, I pressed my face against the window, considering using my bag as a make-shift weapon. The place loomed over me, a silhouette of a dark building. The only light was the sign on the front, the name written in neon purple cursive. I was ushered out of the car before I could try and attempt to break away. James kept a firm hold of my arm. When I tugged at it, telling him to let me go, he assured me it was for my own safety. So I didn't hurt myself. I asked questions, but they were all ignored. The hotel reception was not much of anything; a small room with bright yellow walls and a sitting area where ironically, reruns of our show were playing. A tired looking man in a suit behind a desk fell into conversation with James. I tried to listen in, but they spoke in hissed whispers I could barely understand. I heard our names. All five of us. After ten minutes of me dazedly watching my character Katie run though a forest, chased by a man in a mask, James grabbed my shoulder and pulled me towards a set of brown mahogany doors, and then up a carpeted staircase. The place looked abandoned. Like we were the only ones inside. I was taken up three flights of stairs and pulled down a narrow hallway with the same sickly yellow paint peeling on the walls. I was shoved inside the first room, and before I could turn around and try and dive past him, James was slamming the door in my face. The sound of a lock clicking into place sent my heart into my throat. The room was tiny and box-like with the same paint-work. There were two single beds, and sitting on one of them was Rory. He'd previously had his head planted in his lap and looked up sharply. His eyes were swollen. He'd been crying. "Robs?" We hugged. I asked him what the hell was going on, and he had no idea. James had taken him and the others before me. When I asked where Noah, Izzie and Lana were, he shook his head with a frown. "No clue." his accent felt warm and familiar, something I needed. Rory explained that James had told him and the others the same thing. That they were sick, and needed help. He also said the windows were locked, and the phone on the bedside cupboard had been disconnected. There was no way we could reach out to the outside world. That night, I slept. The bed was small and I could barely fit on it, but I was so tired I didn't care. I don't know how I manged to fall asleep though. I was exhausted from the shoot, but my brain wouldn't shut up, and James's words played like a stuck record in my head. Before I knew it the windows were flooded with sunlight, and Rory was standing over me, shaking me. I got up quickly, only to find James standing in the doorway. In his hands were two glasses of water. Rory made sure to greet him with verbal abuse. Which I was thankful for. I was barely awake, and couldn't string two words together. "Colourful." James said, smirking at my cast mate. The boy was practically vibrating with fury next to me. Though I'm not surprised. Rory has ADHD so he’s prone to flying off the handle. “I'm here to take you to set!" James looked fresh in a brand new suit, while we were in yesterdays sweats. He must have seen my expression. "Oh no, don't you worry! I've got clothes ready downstairs, and breakfast is on its way. I've ordered Mcdonalds." My mouth watered at the thought of food after barely eating anything the day before. "Oh! Before I forget, it's mandatory you both take these." Setting the glasses of water on the bedside table, James pulled something out of his pocket, holding it up to the light. I squinted. It was a tiny blue pill. Whatever appetite I'd garnered at the thought of breakfast bled away. My chest tightened. "For your condition." He said, when none of us moved. Rory sputtered, breaking the silence. "You're kidding, right." James shook his head, maintaining a wide smile. "It's for your health. Take the pill voluntarily, or we'll have to take appropriate measures." He strode over to Rory and dropped the pill into the boy's hand. Then mine. This time his eyes were hard. "Take it." We had no choice. With James stood there watching us intently, I gave in and popped the pill into my mouth, taking a sip of water. It didn't taste of anything, and I had to swallow twice because it got lodged in the back of my throat. After a moment, Rory took his too. None of us wanted to, but it was either we did so, or James was true to his word, and enforced "appropriate measures." which I was sure was going to be him forcing it down our throat. After we took the pill, I expected side effects. But nothing happened. It wasn't until I was on set when I started feeling weird. I can't explain it. I've been on mental health meds before and I know the side-effects can make you tired and dazed. I felt similar to that, but a lot worse. It was like being in a trance. The hours of the day blurred together and I could barely remember talking to anyone, or conversations I had. It was a mess in my head. Even now after two days of not taking it, my head still feels foggy. Though I did notice one thing. Through the fog, a coherent thought began to bloom inside my mind. Noah wasn't on set. He wasn't anywhere. I'd seen Izzie and Lana, but I can't remember talking to them. This is their way of shutting us up and stopping us from leaving the show. Drugging us. Heavily. Two days ago James came in with the same pill. Rory took his like normal. I hid mine under my tongue and faked swallowing it. James fell for it, and my head is starting to clear up. I've seen the effects of the pill on Rory. It turns us into zombies. Rory still talks to me, but most of the time it's senseless rambling that makes no sense. He told me to post on here, so I am. Noah is still missing, but I know if I ask about him, they'll know I'm sober. They'll know I'm not taking the pill. I'm not risking it. I'm going to clear my head completely and find Noah. I managed to get this phone from the prop department. They have a bag of old and new iPhone's. There's no cellular service though. I can only get WIFI. If I can, I'll update you in a few days. I'm waiting for the pill to completely wear off. I need to think straight. I need to find Noah and get all of us the hell out of here.

Hello! I'm a film student taking a class on feminist film analysis this semester. I just read this awesome article from Erica Balsom on the "Female Gaze" and was wondering if anyone knows where I could find the book she refers to -- Le regard feminin by Iris Brey -- in English. I've only found the French version online but would love to give it a read. Thanks :)
2020.09.23 20:06 vatezvaraNewbie here🖖🏾 Which show/movie introduced you to the Star Trek Universe and what are your fav?
Currently watching Lower Decks after watching most of the other ST series and what a great animation with a really impressive gag rate. The ratings are confusing. DISCO was my entry into the universe. Patiently waiting for S3 now. I loved it and it got me curious so I watched the JJ Abrahams films and I was hooked! I then started watching them backwards moving onto ENT and I gotta say, I was so not ready for that switch from season-long story arcs to standalone episodes. After that awesome pilot which set insanely high expectations, I was so confused cos I expected the story to continue in the following episodes. Hated the format at first but slowly got used to it and now enjoy the show as it is. First seasons of ENT where disappointing and almost quit several times but these ST shows have a tendency to grow on you even with their mediocre starts... the nice thing about stand-alones is that you don’t miss much if you skip an episode. S3 and S4 were really good.. except for that last episode🤦🏾♂️ (I didn’t know who Riker was at the time and holodecks werent very familiar to me so I was super confused. wish they gave it a proper finish) I noticed these older series are a bit harder to binge compared to the latest ones. I guess it should be obvious given their format. I then moved onto Voyager and loved it although I feel like some of the episodes could have been better told over 2 or more episodes. Some resolutions felt rushed. I then watched TNG and after skipping several episodes in the first two pretty boring seasons, it slowly became my fav... i think we can all agree that TNG theme is the official song for Star Trek. I then watched Picard after TNG and ... it was okay but felt like a wasted opportunity. Nothing memorable besides Easter eggs although It was a good set up for a new crew to start new things in S2 so let’s see where that goes. ... and then I moved onto DS9 😭 this is by far my Fav. I was surprised this wasn’t more popular than it seemed to be. It has really good writing, rarely skipped episodes and has what feels like a much more realistic take on the utopia that is the Star Fleet and the Federation along with its flaws. Sisko is the best and most badass Capt in Star Fleet! VOY and DS9 seriously need DVD releases. The older movies are pretty weak to be honest. They feel like very long episodes with a high budget. Wrath of Khan is really good though and I also enjoyed First Contact. Now I’ve just started TOS... and i can’t get past the very weird and disturbing first episode. Why the misogyny? And it’s got high ratings too ??? I know this show was made back when black people in the USA were only starting to be allowed to vote legally so I guess it makes sense. Question to any non-white Star Trek fans who might be reading this, is TOS worth watching? Anyways if there’s other newbies there I would love to hear your experiences too. It’s interesting to see a lot of online debates. A lot of Star Trek YT channels I came across seem to be stuck in the TNG era and I rarely see content on the newer shows that doesn’t feel like just baseless hate.
2020.09.23 17:25 NewsPlantBollywood – The Show Must Go On! Anupama Chopra
Before I fell in love with Hindi films, I fell in love with the Hindi film industry. In 1989, straight out of college, I got a job with the now-defunct Movie magazine. But I wasn’t deeply interested in the movies. I lived in South Bombay (as it was known then). Even though my mother Kamna Chandra wrote Raj Kapoor’s Prem Rog (1982) and Yash Chopra’s Chandni (1989), we didn’t watch too many Hindi films. We preferred the infinitely cooler experience of Hollywood in the rarefied setting of theatres like Metro and Sterling. The magazine job was supposed to be a diversion, a stop-gap until I figured out what I really wanted to do. In a few months, I understood that I had found my calling. I fell in love hard, not so much with the artistry of Hindi film but with the intoxication of the film industry. It was gaudy and chaotic but also instantly seductive. The personalities were outsized. The environment was so informal and porous that on the pretext of an interview, you could spend hours hanging out with stars. The proximity to fame was heady. It was like having front-row seats to a colourful, constantly dazzling Broadway show. There was action in every corner of the stage. My love for the industry evolved into a passion for film, which has defined most of my adult life. My appetite grew to encompass movies of every genre, language, shape and size. Meanwhile, the industry metamorphosed into Bollywood. It no longer functioned like the Wild West. The bazaar style-working was slowly replaced by studios, multiplexes and publicly traded companies. Bound scripts, contracts, agents, minders, publicists, entourages became part of the landscape. What was once considered, literally and metaphorically, an ‘andhere ka dhanda,’ became legitimate. Over the last 25 years, Bollywood has attained, what New York University anthropologist Dr. Tejaswini Ganti, calls, cultural legitimacy. Which means an acceptance from sectors of society that haven’t been their traditional audience base. The moniker might be contentious but there is little doubt that Bollywood is the subcontinent’s most distinctive cultural marker. No matter where I travel, when I say that I’m from India, the response is invariably, “Aah…Bollywood.” In 2013, I attended the Marrakech International Film Festival. When I told my hair stylist that I’m Indian, he started singing, “Tujhe dekha to yeh jana sanam…” He, like most of the country, was besotted with Shah Rukh Khan. Bollywood, once seen as kitschy, third-world cinema, slowly came to be recognized as a vibrant and profoundly popular art form. But Bollywood has never just been a style of filmmaking. It’s a culture and a religion. Literally – fans have built temples for actors like Shah Rukh and Amitabh Bachchan. Over the years, Hindi films have taught us how to love, what to wear, how to style our hair. They have shaped our dreams and aspirations and gifted us with boundless pleasure. I experience it each time I see the beauteous Madhubala as Anarkali defying a thunderous emperor as she sings ‘Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya’ in Mughal-e-Azam. Or when Veeru sways drunkenly from the water tank in Sholay. Or when Raj and Simran reunite in that field in Punjab to the strains of ‘Tujhe Dekha To’. Or when Bhuvan hits that winning six in Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India. Or when Kabir Khan’s rakshason ki sena lifts the women’s hockey World Cup in Chak De! India. Or when Poo pouts in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and declares: Tell me how it was! I don’t know about you but my life would be infinitely less magical and less joyous without Hindi films. I say this as a person whose profession it is to criticize. For almost thirty years now, I have railed against its shortcomings – both in the movies and the business. There are raging problems that need fixing, especially in the industry. Everything Bollywood has been accused of in the last few months – discrimination, drugs, favouritism, nepotism, short-sightedness, cowardice, greed, vanity, arrogance – could be true. As it is for the rest of the country and every other ecosystem – business, sports, politics, tech. The Hindi film industry is not a hotbed of sin, polluting an otherwise pristine nation. But since the tragic demise of Sushant Singh Rajput, Bollywood has come under siege. The attack has been unstinting, slanderous and specious. I’ve seen the industry go through terrible times – the mafia years in the late 90s and early 2000s were especially hard. But this current viciousness and hate, furthered by the media, social media and paid trolls, is new and bewildering. The high-decibel narrative portrays the film industry like the decadent Roman Empire, in the last days before its collapse. It would be comical if it weren’t so sad. This is an industry built on sweat and ambition, tears and dreams. According to the Deloitte-MPA Report, ‘Economic Impact of the Film, Television and Online Video Services Industry in India,’ released in May, film and allied industries like television and streaming, make a contribution of 349,000 crore (direct and indirect) to the economy and employ approximately 26.6 lakh people (direct and indirect). And this does not include, as Nitin Tej Ahuja, CEO of the Producers Guild of India, points out, “the income of the Gwalior barber peddling Kartik Aaryan haircuts, the Jalandhar choreographer training bridesmaids to perform Didi Tera Devar Deewana or the Chandni Chowk tailor selling Simran lehengas.” Hindi cinema permeates every aspect of our lives. And yet, the artists who create this cinema are being assaulted in ways that are hideous and heartbreaking. The men and women who have entertained us for decades have become collateral damage in a political war being waged by opportunists. The film industry has become a smoke screen, being used to obfuscate. It’s graceless and dangerous and sadly, there seems to be no end in sight. But the next time you pronounce judgement or click, in gleeful anticipation, on an article that claims to reveal sensational details about the filth in the film industry, remember that their art has nourished your life. This is a business teeming with bright, hardworking, talented people. And the show will go on. As it always does.
2020.09.23 16:32 AffectionateBrother4My (27m) wife (23f) of 2 months hid from me she did amateur porn. I found out 5 days ago.
Heyo! My wife and I met and quickly fell in love. We knew within 48 hours we would get married. 10 months later we were married. We have a wonderful life. We relocated across the country for work and settled down in a much bigger home than I have ever lived in. 2 months into marriage everything was bliss. Until a Facebook friend of hers sent her a porn video. She tried to play it off as spam but I could see the fear in her eyes that I would find out. I did some digging on her old computer and found out she was selling pictures and videos of herself online for the past two years. She was negoitating what she would do in the videos, how long, how much she would get paid. I confronted her and she confessed and we had a heated verbal fight where she said she would do anything to keep me and she is very sorry for hiding this from me and she loves me more than anything. It broke me. She has told me hundreds of times I was her first love and second person she had slept with. That was obviously a lie, she really had slept with over 20 guys while she was filming videos. Here is the kicker - SHE is now the one saying she does not want to try and resolve it. No counseling, no talking through it, nothing. I am at a loss for what to do. I had never been so betrayed or deceived in my life but I still love her and would like to try and work it out. She has not talked to me in 3 days and her last message said it won't work out. Do you think I am missing something? Should I let her go? Please fill me in on how I can no longer feel like I am getting punched in the stomach over and over. I have not slept or ate in days. I cannot focus on work or anything productive.
2020.09.23 15:51 DerstoroniusI Honestly think Mineta is a Good Character.
I Have a lot of unpopular opinions. And when I say a lot, I really mean A LOT. I Think the 2003 Hulk movie directed by Ang Lee is a masterpiece and one of the best superhero movie ever made. I Think "Sonic Unleashed" is a good game. I Think "My Hero Academia" Is really deep, complex and smart, and not just a mindless shounen. I Think Emo Peter Parker from Spider-Man 3 is one of the best (and most underrated) aspects of the movie. And I'm just talking about pop culture here. If we get into politcs, oh boy, I Would probably be one of the most downvoted reddit users of all time if I ever said some of my opinions about politics. But, out of all my unpopular and controversal opinions, one of the most unpopular is: Minoru Mineta, from "My Hero Academia" Is actually a good character. And if you disagree with me, then FUCK YOU!!! YOU SHOULD GO TO HELL FOR DISAGREEING WITH ME!!! (or maybe i could just politely present my arguments. yeah, i think that's a better option) Just please, hear what i have to say. Maybe i can change your mind, who knows? Part 1: Mineta Is a terribly written character When discussing about Mineta, You'll often see people saying that he's a bad written character, he has poorly-developed motivations, he has no character arc, he has no backstory, etc... Ok, guys, let's stablish something first: Mineta is not a main character. Yeah, I Know, what a "The Sixth Sense" level plot twist, right? I Bet you didn't see that coming. But seriously, He's barely even a secondary character. I Mean, even among the supporting cast, he's one of the characters with the least amount of screentime. Characters like Kirishima and Iida have way more screentime than poor Mineta. So, expecting him to have some Silmarilion-level backstory is laughable. MHA Has a lot of characters, there are 20 people just on class 1-A. Add the U.A teachers, the villains, and some of the other members of the supporting cast, like Midoriya's mother and the other pro-heroes and you'll understand why dedicating time to develop the motivations and backstory of a tertiary character whose main purpose is to be a comic relief is not a good idea. It would be better to use this time to develop your protagonists, antagonists and the conflict between them. A lot of the time, MHA Can't even do that properly (I'm looking at you, Overhaul) so we can't really demand it to spend even more time with... Mineta. Am I Saying that no time should be used to develop Mineta and the other secondary characters? Of course not. I'm just saying that time is a limited resource, and as all the limited resources, it should be administrated in a rational way. The guy who shot uncle ben will never get the same amount of development as Spider-man, and he shouldn't. Mineta is not a top priority. And, if you are one of the folks who use this argument, I Would like to ask you something: Do you apply this logic to EVERY Character? Do you think Bakugou's parents are terrible characters because they didn't get the same amount of development as Midoriya? Part 2: Mineta just wants to be a hero so he can get laid, what a selfish bastard. So, this is a really minor point, so I'll be quick. In the My Hero Academia universe, Superheroes are celebrities. It's the job most kids wants to do, kinda like how most little kids in our world wish to be an astronaut or a pirate. So, you can't really expect every hero in the MHA Universe to have completly autruistic motivations. Sure, you have some heroes like All Might and Midoriya who just wish to save as many people as possible, but you also have a lot of people with not-so-altruistic resons for being a hero, like status and money. Uraraka herself admits that she wants to be a hero for money (although you could argue that she's being altruistic, since she wants money to help her poor family) But then you have Bakugou who wants to be a hero just to prove that he's the strongest in the whole world, and Mt.Lady basically just wants to be famous. You don't see anyone hating them because of that, so why do you guys hate Mineta because some of his reasons are a little bit selfish? Part 3: Mineta is a bad comic relief! I Think we all know how hard it can be to discuss comedy, specially on the internet. And that's because, as we all know, "CoMeDy Is SuBjEcTiVe", and yes, that is partially correct but as all things in the universe, there's a way it can be done effectively and a way it can be done not-so-effectively. I Mean, the fact that 99.99% of all people can agree that Jar Jar Binks is a bad comic relief is an evidence that comedy is not 100% subjective. So, Is Mineta a good comic relief? I Would say: Yes. Yes, he is. But, instead of saying why He's a good comic relief, I will first say what makes a bad comic relief and then explain how he doesn't fit the criteria for being a bad comic relief. So, what makes a bad comic relief? 1: A Bad comic relief will make jokes at the wrong moment. Do you know what "Bathos" mean? "Bathos" Is when the tone of a story abruptly changes. Remember that scene in "A New Hope" when Luke returns to home only to find his uncle and his aunt dead bodies carbonized? Imagine if in that scene C-3PO Had said "Wow, I think 2 suns are really bad for your skin". That would have been a bathos. It was a serious and dramatic moment, a joke at that moment would have ruined it (By the way, since we're talking about Star Wars here, I have to mention that "The Last Jedi" Is the movie with the biggest amount of Bathos I've ever seen (I didn't really have to mention this by the way, I Just love shitting on TLJ)) My point here is: A Bad comic relief will make jokes at the wrong moment. 2: A Bad character relief will tell jokes that don't reflect it's personality. To ilustrate this point I'll use 2, very famous examples: Jar Jar Binks and MCU Tony Stark (I Know Tony's main purpose is not to be a comic relief, but he's often designed to this position, so he'll do the job) Why Is Jar Jar a bad comic relief and Tony a good one? There are many reasons, but one of the main reasons is that Tony's jokes reflect his personality. His jokes are ironic, sarcastic and dominant. Becuase those are caracteristics that are also present in Tony's personality. Jar Jar Bnks jokes, on the other hand, are usually something like tripping or dropping something heavy on his foot. Like, something any other character could do, not something you would link directly to Jar Jar. And that's it. Those are the two main characteristics of a bad comic relief. Does Mineta fit any of them? No. He never tells a joke at a inapropriated moment. You'll never see him saying something funny at a funeral. And his jokes are a reflection of himself. Most of Mineta's Jokeas are sex-related and the target of the joke is often Mineta himself. Why? Well, that's because... Part 4: MINETA IS A CREEPY, RAPIST, PERVERTED WOMEN ABUSER PSYCOPATH AND HE SHOULD BE LOCKED IN A PRISION CELL FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE!!!!!11!1 So, we're finally here. I'm finally gonna talk about Mineta and his failed atempts to get laid. Ok, so... I Know MHA Has a problem with sexualized characters (That's actually a problem in the anime industry as a whole, but we're gonna talk about that in a minute). And that becomes an eeven bigger problem when you realize that the most sexualized characters in the series are a bunch of teenage girls. So yeah, I agree that this is a really big problem. But here's the thing: It's not a problem with Mineta. It's a problem with the Anime/Manga Industry. Let's look at something that happens in the 40th episode of the anime. In this episode, The class 1-A Students are taking a bath. There's a wall separating the boys and the girls. Mineta then decides to climb up the wall to see his female classmates naked, but the Wild Wild Pussycats nephew Kota appears at the top and slaps Mineta, who falls on Iida's face. Pretty funny joke, right? But right after that, the girls from class 1-A, thanking Kota for his help, call his name, making Kota look directly at them and pass out. And we get a direct shot of a bunch of teen girls... Completly naked... Wow. Just... wow. I Don't need to explain how fucked up this is (Or at least I Shouldn't need to). I Understand that Kota needed to pass out so he could fall and be saved by Midoriya to move the plot foward, but do we really needed to see the girls naked? Couldn't we just hear the girls calling Kota, then see his reaction, maybe we can have the "blood is coming out of his nose because he just saw something sexy" cliché and then we see him passing out? Couldn't we have done that? It would have achieved the same result, but without oversexualizing the female students of class 1-A. But no, we just had to see a group of 15 years old completly naked girls with mellon-sized boobs, didn't we? This moment was grose. It was discusting. I Know it was. But, just a question: WHAT THE HELL DOES IT HAVE TO DO WITH MINETA??? Mineta's participation was over. He was just there to make a little joke and help move the plot foward, he didn't have anything to do with that creepy scene, that's not on him. That's a problem with the anime/manga industry. If you've spent any time consuming media, you probably realized that protagonists have a tendency to be... well... sexy as hell. You can see that in books, games, comics, tv shows, etc... Every main character has super defined muscles, every main female character has big breasts and a perfect ass, everyone has a perfect skin, everyone has a perfect hair, every protagonist has a perfect hair and skin, no one has pimples. EVERYONE. IS. HOT. Just look at the biggest blockbuster films from the last decade: Superhero movies. Tell me ONE Superhero movie where the main character(s) doesn't have a perfect body/haiskin. I Can just think of two examples: Avengers: Endgame, with fat thor (But that doesn't really count, I feel like fat thor is easier for the general audience to accept because we have 49 other heroes on screen who are sex). And the second example is Birds of Prey with characters like Montoya and Cassandra Cain, and the only reason why Birds of Prey has characters like that is because it's a movie with a feminist message, and one of the main purposes of feminism is to "deconstruct the beauty standards impose to women". Literally every other superhero movie released on the 2010's has a super hot protagonist. Every MCU Movie has at least one scene where the protagonist appears shirtless (except Captain Marvel, for some reason). And It's easy to understand why it happens. It's because of the escapism. Escapism is present in basically all forms of media. Everyone likes to see themselves in the hero. And, if the hero is ugly, then we'll project ourselves on a ugly character, which is not something most of us would like. So yeah, atractive characters in fiction is not a ad thing. It's common. But in the anime industry, it is a bad thing. Characters in anime arent just "hot". They're REALLY, REALLY, REALLY FUCKING OVERSEXUALIZED. Sometimes, I'll be watching a shounen anime and then something so NSFW Will happen that I'll think "wait, Am i watching a Hentai?" The best example I Can think of it is that scene at the end of the first season of Sword Art Online where Asuna almost gets raped, and the direction clearly wants you to have a boner while watching that! And you could write a whole rant just talking about this. Hell, you could write a whole book just talking about this. And I Have my own opinion on why Japan Sexualizes It's characters so much, but this Rant is Already too big, so I'm not gonna talk about this. The point is: People act like all the ocasions where we see a girls being sexualized it's because of Mineta, but that's a problem with the Anime Industry as a whole, not with poor Mineta. Ok, I've explain how the Anime Itself sexualizes It's female characters not Mineta. Now, let's talk about... Mineta. Is Mineta a Creepy, Pervert, Rapist women-abuser? Yes. Yes, he is. I Know that. You know that. And the author knows that. That's why Mineta is constantly punished by the universe for trying to sexually harass his classmates. Do you remember when i Said that When Mineta is on-screen, he's often the target of the Jokes? That's because the joke is often "Mineta tries to do something pervert and the universe punishes him for it". Mineta tries to say something inapropriated to Ochacko? Asuy slaps him in the face. Mineta tries to Spy the girl's bathroom? Jirou uses her earphones to hurt his eye. Mineta tries to climb a wall to see his classmates naked? Kota slaps him and he falls to the ground, all his effort was in vain, what an idiot. Mineta is ridiculous. He has a ridiculous outfit, a ridiculous costume and his powers are ridiculous. All the characters (specially Jirou and Iida) talk about how Mineta is a trash human being everytime he does something perverted. Mineta is not represented as a good, heroic guy when he does something like that. He's represented as a terrible human being. Also, do you really think Mineta is the only boy in Class 1-A who likes to look at the girls? I Mean, come on. Just look at Uraraka's costume. JUST LOOK AT MOMO'S OUTFIT, FOR GOD'S SAKE! Midoriya almost has a heart attack when he sees Uraraka in her hero costume for the first time. We're taling about a bunch of 15 years old boys here! Actually, we're talking about a school where every student, boys and girls have perfect bodies! (all the boys have super-defined muscles. There are no things like fat or skinny) I Can bet my soul that every single student in that school has inapropriated thoughts about their classmates, Mineta is just the only one who's dumb enough to actually say it out loud.

Cheap Supreme Sweatshirts The marketing model of the tide circle! Supreme is so "expensive" that there is a routine. Cheap Supreme Sweatshirts In recent days, because of the last joint sale of single products in KAWS X Uniqlo, there has been a crazy rush to buy in China, and for a while, both at home and abroad have forwarded and reported the "rush to buy" in KAWS X Uniqlo. Behind the panic buying incident, Can not help but think of Supreme, the leading hegemony of the current street trend, because the scarcity of the joint series style is enough to make fans at home and abroad buy any single product with Supreme Logo. And what is the reason for the success of the current Supreme marketing model? Why are there still some people buying the speculation price Supreme of thousands of dollars? Today, Briefly lists five factors that lead to the "high" market price of Supreme. https://preview.redd.it/kt6epunhdwo51.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=33096bae8db28919c2122675266fa7a87a3dc6a1 //The rise of street skateboarding wear culture In 1994, James Jebbia (founder of Supreme) opened his first Supreme store on Lafayette Street in New York, and the brand initially aimed at the sales market, which was based on street skateboarding style clothing design theme to sell its own hoodies, short Tees and other related items. https://preview.redd.it/iv7urs2jdwo51.jpg?width=658&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1997e498cd26d7a213e5e4bba477af6733f7088d The rise of the skateboarding street wear culture in the 1990s and early 2000s, and Supreme's own rebellious street attitude, made it a leading street brand at that time. //Striking Supreme Box Logo Design The Typeface Supreme Logo of Supreme Box Logo, one of the most recognizable street brands in the world and one of the deepest in skateboard culture, draws on the futuristic typography of conceptual artist Barbara Kruger. Because the Box Logo displayed by Supreme in the 1990s and the beginning of the 21st century not only represents a symbol of "rebellion" and "cool", but also causes the crazy pursuit of street boarders because of the highly recognized brand logo design. //The creative concept of "borrowing" and "saluting" Another key reason for Supreme's popularity is that its brand specializes in images and logos that "borrow" and "pay homage" to pop culture. In a different way, the original film and television art works are transformed into their own design works. https://preview.redd.it/x6zdkeqpdwo51.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6b434fd270eabebbfdf0200451b70bd5b06ec4f7 Since then, the transformation of the original art paintings into more easy-to-understand contemporary art or graffiti Supreme design items has attracted more attention and appreciation from the world. However, due to Supreme's bold "illegal use" of the Logo design of major luxury brands (such as Louis Vuitton) and the launch of its own related items, resulting in plagiarism infringement, which has received many court summonses from other luxury brands. //Rare Sales Quantity Supreme, as a fashion brand coveted by street teenagers all over the world, is still rare in the number of single products on sale, even though it is highly respected and loved by people from all walks of life. Supreme Offline Sales Method: Tuesday to enter the Supreme official website to provide personal information to apply for purchase, if the information of the applicant is selected, that night will receive the Supreme official approval purchase notice. On Wednesday, applicants will receive a queue number from Supreme and the corresponding time slot. On Thursday, applicants entered the store with a queue number issued by Supreme to buy a single style, with a limit of one per person for all restricted items. https://preview.redd.it/zohv18axdwo51.jpg?width=847&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=afe80327637e4f350fec966c956ad4027720370e Supreme is available online every Thursday at 11 am North American time. //Star upper body publicity effect After 2000, Supreme officially began to accelerate the development speed of its own brand, and one of the heroes who promoted Supreme to enter the world stage was Kanye West & Tyler, the Creator, who is now the king of goods. In 2006, Supreme teamed up with Nike to launch a pair of Supreme Blazer SB shoes that were priced at $150, but sold for between $300 and $400. In 2007, Kanye West appeared in the Grammy Foundation's Starry Night party (the Grammy Foundation Starry Night Party) and added the Supreme Blazer SB to the car, which led to the resale price soaring to $800. https://preview.redd.it/0k85ss7zdwo51.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=620040aa2831c3aaf5d594624d098e8900e2a5d4 In the same case, Tyler the Creator wore the Supreme Box Logo Hoodie in the video for his SHE album, which caused the resale value of the Box Logo Hoodie, which was about $150, to jump to $3,500. https://preview.redd.it/37jcxhzzdwo51.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac39ffa43a861c349f864d79dafc12154cdd447b Supreme's current trend power is still pulling street kids around the world, from the original zero-based skateboard brand to today's billion dollar commercial brand, Supreme pioneered not only the rebellious and cool street attitude, but also became the value belief of many trend-loving people. 2020.09.23 03:45 CUSTUEIs it common to have an online class that is not delivering any lectures?
Hi, The title really says it all, I am wondering if a lot of people are in online classes with no lectures or if this is something I would be able to talk to a dean/program head about. For more information, I am currently taking FILM 2001A and I noticed there is not a single lecture in the class. At first I thought it was just the first week that would be this way but I now see that the entire class is readings from his textbook and notes he posts online in a "conversational style". This seems very low-effort and is not comparable to the online experiences I am receiving in my other classes (film classes included), especially for the prices. If you're reading this and we are in the same class, I would love to get some of your opinions about the situation. Thanks.
Hello! Are you female? Are you bored? Are you looking for a good conversation and want to get past small talk? Do you hate looking for men to talk to online because they treat you like an object? Would you like to talk to someone that treats you like a person!? Do you like a guy that uses the Oxford comma?! If you answered yes to any or all of these, come chat with me. I am 31 male working in the film industry and am bored. Would love a good conversation! Message with age and location for info. Talk soon!
2020.09.23 00:10 idkwhat2domanNot sure if i've been catfished, and want to date to find out what's true
This has happened over the course of just under 2 years. I met her while playing video games with my friends. One of them streams and I eventually asked who they were both talking to when they would read messages and reply verbally. I ended up downloading the streaming-app so I could see the messages they were replying to while we played. They ended up talking about how pretty she was, and I jokingly claimed "I have to see this" so I checked out her Instagram as well, after she mentioned she used the same name for everything. She was attractive, and I proceeded to add her on other social medias. In the beginning I didn't want to be the person to leave someone on "read"/hanging, but I tried not to think much of it and viewed it as casual conversation. She very quickly opened up to me about things of her past, which included abusive parents, the loss of her mother, and over time mentioning homelessness (I later found out the passing had been fairly recent, so I didn't think it was odd to open up to a somewhat stranger, and tossed it up to being something she needed to get off her chest.) I wasn't the only person who added her on the social medias, all my friends did as well. She was a very open person in general, and was open with them about some things as well. Early on when my friend-group met her, she mentioned knowing the area where we were from, even though she lived in the opposite side of the country. We messaged everyday, eventually she ended up calling me over snapchat and we talked for hours, and from there on it was extremely easy to grow feelings for her. With her being the only girl from our friend group that would play online and that we actually got along with and wasn't bratty like the other girls that were briefly around, it was natural to make jokes referring to her as babe, and things like that. I'm trying to be respectful, and not include too many details about her, and where she lived, and where she moved around growing up (moved around a lot after high school) but I think I have to include some details about her and also include the tragedies that happened to her, and ill try to keep them in order, and expand about the more significant ones. There is a lot of details in all of these I'm going to mention, but I'm going to say the things that stood out, I don't want to leave the impression that she just kind of threw them out there. - She claimed to be in her early 20s, and a write but mostly editor and sometimes camera work in a big city in the north-east, lets just say it never sleeps. She made lots of money, said she was building her dream-house hours away. Has nice cars, and an expensive apartment in the city. So she was well off, and she would give my druggy friend money for weed when he would ask(happened a couple times only), including buying him an expensive team jersey after he drunkenly and jokingly asked her to buy one. so the money thing I never cared for or questioned - Her siblings out-casted her growing up after all of them were abused and left home going their separate ways and she didn't hold resentment towards them or her parents. I thought this was odd, because I imagined siblings would grow closer after going through hell together, but I chalked it up to them having issues and resentment that they didn't understand why she didn't have. Her sister was verbally abusive with her. But overtime her sister called and would ask for money, and then block her. The most recent time she asked, she blocked her sisters number. Her brother decided to reach out at one point as well, but not for money. They hung out, she met his kids who she hadn't met, and she claimed her brother didn't want her in his life, he just wanted to see how she was doing (forgot the reason tbh) - She mentioned her dad passing several months after her mother, and I knew it must've been hard to lose 2 parents in one year - She had a gun pointed at her while she was walking with some classmates after-dark(briefly took a semester at the school nearby), and mentioned me being the person she thought about and how it would leave the impression she ghosted if she died. (I would jokingly ask her no to ghost me because I wouldn't know if she was dead or alive) - She later went on a trip, only to have to leave early due to a close friend passing away. The friend happened to live in a city nearby, so I was disappointed when I didn't see her while she was here at that time, but she ended up staying at the friends-parents house who she got along with. The funeral had already happened so she just visited his grave, and spent time with them. - While she was visiting the area she grew up, there was a car accident, 2 of her friends passed away and she was the only survivor in the car wreck. I didn't know how to handle this well, because she was having thoughts of suicide and I honestly couldn't blame her, so I was reserved on this because I didn't know what to say to help, I had no words. She ended up ghosting me for about a month after mentioning she needed therapy and time alone. - This car accident didn't only impact her horribly, it impacted her friends as well, they would tell her things along the lines of, "why not you, why them." One of the friends who was already depressed, ended up borrowing a gun from another friend and killing himself. An investigation took place by the police when they questioned where he got the gun. They looked into the group chat they were all in, and found a video of some of the people in the chat recording a rape taking place that happened years prior. She traveled back down for the funeral which she wasn't allowed to attend after they found out where he got the gun, and the friends proceeded to try to beat her and try to drag her into a ditch to get her to not testify anything. I thought this was odd because there was nothing to testify, they had the evidence, and she had nothing to do with the rape/recording she was only in the house party taking place. but I chalked it up to paranoid people knowing they're gonna face consequences for something heavy - Along the road of getting to know her, she was always a selfless person. She would buy food for the homeless people she came across. Buy them extra things they might need. One time she took 2 of them out shopping, and they got beat up, and had their new things stolen from them. One of them had a broken rib, and she tried taking him to the doctor and said she'd take the bill but they didn't want to help him and threw them both out. She was bummed out over this and ghosted me for 3days. - She would mention a homeless person who was around our age. One day she took him out shopping, and afterwards decided to get him an apartment and a job with a friend who was doing a film. - She was told she couldn't have any kids, and that if possible, only in the next year or two. She was vegan and was extremely underweight. The doctors told her she needed to start taking vitamins and to gain weight. She was a hardcore runner, so I encouraged her to gain weight, because no matter what, she would be healthy due to the amount of running she does. - She had endless stories of the times guys would hit on her or ended up liking her, I would think no shit, attractive successful girl living in a big city. She also said the homeless guy she gave an apartment to told her he was into her before she got on her flight to see me. alright, now that that's out of the way, I need to include what happened to my friends. Several friends know her, but 2 of my closest friends revealed a side of themselves that surprised me. During a point where we were going through something, they ended up finding out that me and her were more than just friends. I didn't want to be official, because I wanted to meet her first, but we were essentially in love and they discovered that. Knowing how we felt about each other, they still tried flirting with her, and essentially told her they would be down to hook up, and not care about how I would feel about it. The only friend I got who I would tell these things to, but he was only an observer, was my gym partner. Me, her and my longtime friend talked on discord, and would turn on our cameras, eventually the friend claimed to be suspicious of her being a catfish and wanted to facetime her. She thought she didn't have to prove herself to him, and I felt the same. If I had never facetimed her, why should he (even though I'd turn on my camera when it was just me and her, but never pressured her to turn hers on.) she had lots of pictures of her face, none of her body, but I managed to screenshot one of her body that she briefly had as an avatar, she looked average to me. She would also post snapchats of her body, and it never said "from camera roll" or anything like that, including snapchats of her rolling her eyes when people called her a catfish. She claimed she would send snaps to people asking her to hold spoons/items. although I never saw these. None of her pictures ever said "camera roll" I had witnessed filters that would make your face look thinner. A buddy had a chunky girlfriend, who I knew and I saw her use a filter on snap that gave her a jawline. I thought it was silly and crazy how different she looked. Now comes meeting, I convinced her it was time and after a long time planning it was the day. I was incredibly nervous, I didn't know what to expect but I felt shaky and like throwing up. She had mentioned , " I don't care if you're ready" but I didn't know what she meant by that, but suspected it was projection, I didn't want to disappoint her, and she claimed she knew she would disappoint me, and the day before, she said she was a catfish, I said I didn't believe her, and she said you'll see. I thought she was joking, but nonetheless, I was nervous to see the girl I constantly dreamed about, and I was just gonna be myself, and whatever happens, happens. We had talked about marriage as well, and if she was who she said she was, I told myself I would propose. We meet in a public place, she waves towards my direction, I wasn't sure if it was at me, so I did a double take. She was waving at me. I felt a weird indescribable feeling travel through my body. My first thought that I wouldn't recognize till later, and actually manage to bring up was holy shit she looks younger. But my first recognized thought, was "Fuck, Cat-fished" I had pictured and imagined what my first words would be, and I have no idea what I said, but I remember what I was thinking. It was a mixture and rambling of "I cant believe its like this, what do I say, do I tell her she's not what I expected and potentially make her feel bad, its probably better if I'm upfront about it in person, rather than later over the phone(discord call)" So the entire time we hang out, about 3-4 hours, I'm trying to give her the benefit of doubt. I wanted her to tell me "look I'm sorry I look different" or something. I wanted to confront it, without being the one to bring it up, and potentially make her feel bad. She was way chubbier than I thought she would be, thinking back I should of made a joke about it and possibly talked about how different she looked in person. A week prior she had told me her friends were making fun of her for having abs and saying it looked manly. I thought "how the hell do you go from abs to chunky in about a week." so I couldn't do it in person, she drops me off home (I walked to the park close by to meet her; and she had a car that her friends parents had just given her as a thank you for helping them pay some stuff) I call my gym partner. I was too ashamed to tell him she was pretty much a straight up catfish. I just said "She's the same, but she just looks younger and chubbier" She ends up messaging me, "Not what you expected?" then deletes it. I asked her to call me. At first it was the same as in the park, waiting for her to bring it up, but then I brought myself to say it, "you look different in your pictures" It was an hour long conversation, but it involved me apologizing if that offends her, and asking her if she thought she was a catfish, How she looked so different, to which she claimed "makeup, and good angles", and if she really was as old as she claimed to be. she claimed she was her age, and I told her one of the reasons I was hesitant was because she looked way younger. I brought up the thing about having abs and then being chunky in a week, and her response was "you don't think someone can gain that much weight in a week?"... I dont remember my response but I'm sure it was no I think I should add that, I'm still somewhat into her, when I looked her in the eyes, I could still somewhat see the girl that I would see in the pictures, and her laugh is so much more incredible in person. With that being said, I can't bring myself to look at the pictures I have saved of her, It makes me feel silly, like that's not the girl who I fell in love with, and I would much rather see a realistic picture of her. I also don't know if it was really her who I loved, or just the idea I built around her, and having someone who seemed genuine, kind, smart, funny, and that I had several things in common with. We're supposed to meet again today so there are some things I want genuine advice on. I like having things answered, so I'm thinking about still dating her, given that her age is what she said and that she could prove it, but part of me wants to only do it to see what else is bullshit. and I believe another part of me wants to see the person I built up in my head. also; what do I do about my "friends" ? Do I tell them, hey you were right, she wasn't exactly like her pictures, and also, you guys are pieces of shit because I know you are inconsiderate about my feelings? Or do I just continue to ignore them the way I have been, and have essentially no friends besides my gym partner? tl;dr (20min read) The girl didn't look like her pictures, I suspect she lied about some things, and want to discover what is fully a lie. Feel like I lost some "friends", and not sure if I should reveal she wasn't exactly the same person, or if I should forgive them for being inconsiderate.
2020.09.22 21:35 crimsonplusclover22 [F4R] Southern California - Talk about anything, everything
Hello! How are you? This pandemic has me missing human connection. I miss talking to people about their lives, geeking out about things, cracking jokes, deep conversations, etc. Lately I've mostly been focusing on my online college classes, being a homebody & staying indoors spending time tapping into my hobbies. I love to read, watch films, listen/discover new music, play video games, and make art. Recently I've started growing veggies and plants in my garden, and also started up a new little aquarium which I'm excited about. I wanna know about you and what you've been doing! I'm looking to voice chat, mostly because I'm not that great at texting/messaging and I find it easier to get to know someone when you hear their voice too :-) (Although if you prefer texting/messaging, I am ok with that!) Looking forward to hearing from you ~
2020.09.22 20:38 JasontheHappyHuskyIs Shia LaBeouf in Brownface in the Tax Collector?
The trailer contains many of the markers of a modern Los Angeles gangster flick and box office hit: guns, lovely Latinas, thumping music and attractive dudes in the dopest cars riding around the flatlands of L.A. as they lay down the law of the streets. Almost all the actors are brown-skinned Latinos, except for one. At the center of the clip is Shia LaBeouf — in dark-trim hair, black sunglasses and a barrio accent. Is it “brownface”? The question has elicited conflictedonline responsesand awkward-smiled emojis since the trailer’s release and run-up to “The Tax Collector,” which opens Friday. In it, LaBeouf looks “Mexican,” at least by stereotypical standards. He wears a goatee and sounds like a Latino guy from the ’hood. At one point he says, “Come on, foo’!,”certified barrio slangfor “fool.” LaBeouf, thesometimes troublemakingHollywood star who won wide praise for last year’s autobiographical drama “Honey Boy,” appears to have taken on the persona of the L.A. cholo. Amid the spark of this spring’s George Floyd protests, and the sweep of reparative action that has taken place in Hollywood andother branches of society— including apologies from Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon for past blackface comedy routines and the removal of “30 Rock” episodes with blackface scenes — accusations of brownface rained down on “The Tax Collector.” The film’s director, David Ayer, quickly respondedon Twitter. LaBeouf, said the filmmaker who often talks about growing up in South L.A., is not playing a Latino character but rather an Anglo steeped in Mexican American culture — “a Jewish dude playing a white character.” Therefore, Ayer said, LaBeouf’s turn as the gangster enforcer “Creeper” couldn’t be brownface. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/story/2020-08-06/shia-labeouf-david-ayer-brownface-latino-the-tax-collector

This is a full-time remote position with time in Łódź every now and then. TLDR: We're looking for you*! (*) - applies for certain values of "you" where you also happen to be an all around awesome person and a proactive, out-of-the-box problem solver with a relentless passion for entertainment industries and making great things happen. We're proposing a full time contract with very good salaries, bonuses, and great working conditions. Click here if we convinced you to make one of the best decisions in your life or scroll on and read up on some more details. WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE? SUPERHOT was founded in 2014 in Łódź by a team of underdogs with lots of videogamish and non-videogamish experience. Following a viral success of a 7-Day FPS Game Jam prototype of SUPERHOT, the team hovered up a fair amount of tasty tasty funding from a super successful Kickstarter campaign in May 2014. A little bit of additional bizdev maneuvering later, the available budget more than doubled and allowed the team to survive through almost two years of intensive crunch and trailblazing with a game mechanic that no one executed quite at this scale before. This soul breaking marathon of a project culminated in the release of SUPERHOT for Steam in February 2016. The game immediately became a global best-seller, showered the team with industry awards, critical acclaim, and unconditional love of the amazingly positive community that gathered around SUPERHOT. We were totally weirded out by this, so we went back to our comfy creative process and started building new stuff. SUPERHOT VR came out in December 2016 and became the world-wide #1 best-selling VR game on PC. In 2017 both SUPERHOT titles saw themselves launch on new platforms and in new markets, leaving the core creative team hard at work on SUPERHOT: Mind Control Delete - the third game in the SUPERHOT franchise that gives you more insight into the world of SUPERHOT, more story, more signature gameplay. We released it in July 2020 and gave away around 2 million free copies, making this possibly the biggest giveaway in gaming history. OKAY. WHATCHA NEED ME TO DO?
Help define and own the communications strategy for our studio and games.
Oversee and coordinate communications over all our many, many, many channels; YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Steam, PlayStation, Xbox Clubs, Discord, Reddit, Forums, etc.
Act as our chosen champion for editorial tone, consistency, style and quality for all outbound communications over all channels and platforms. We do lots of communicating!
Think strategically, tactically and cleverly about how we communicate as a brand and set goals accordingly.
Coordinate, plan and produce innovative, engaging, impactful, creative campaigns to support our game launches, updates and never-ending communications.
Create and manage communications content schedules. Identify key delivery dates and oversee content creation. Help us be more organized. Please.
Help define and craft crafty key messages, press releases, emails, store pages, blog posts, updates, copy, Q&As, and FAQs.
Work closely with the development and studio management teams to ensure communications are impactful, meaningful and (if possible) measurable.
Manage social and community team members, guide them in creating engaging content over on all channels.
Collaborate with external PR and marketing vendors to plan and execute great communications campaigns.
OUR EXPECTATIONS ARE SUPER SIMPLE (WELL, KINDA):
3+ years of experience in comparable-ish roles, ideally in things like PR, marketing, communications or community management.
Deep understanding, experience and knowledge of social channels, platform and store communication features and how best to utilise them.
You should be located in Europe or the UK and happy to work in the CET/mainland EU Time Zone.
Truly outstanding verbal and written skills. Fluent in English, written and spoken.
Comfortable working with and coordinating external partners.
Loads and loads of knowledge and familiarity with the video games and wider entertainment industry.
Open-mindedness and willingness to experiment and explore cool new ideas to improve our communications.
Proactiveness, self-reliance, and familiarity working in a creative, growing, game studio.
Team management and/or leadership experience.
NICE TO HAVE, NOT ESSENTIAL
Time spent working at an indie development studio or an indie publisher.
Experience working with titles on both PC and console platforms. Maybe even managed a Switch channel.
Experience with paid marketing, email marketing and/or user acquisition.
Track record in managing budgets and negotiations with external partners. Ideally, successfully.
Non-English language skills.
Knowledge of marketing tools, social analytics and sentiment analysis.
Be comfortable representing SUPERHOT in interviews and in public if needed, we don’t do many of these though.
IN RETURN, WE WILL GIVE YOU:
Very good salary (of course).
Great bonuses and benefits.
All the hardware and furniture you need to do your job remotely.
Flexible working hours.
Unlimited paid leaves after 3 months of trial period.
NO CRUNCH! We don't like crunches.
Lots of love and great vibe.
Chance to check out cool new secret technologies before they even hit the market (but don't tell anyone, ok?).
Possibility to hire all the people you need to create a dream team and make SUPERHOT communication amazing.
UMMM AND HOW DOES THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS LOOK? The whole process will last a few weeks. First, you click the button below and apply. We need your resume and if you have some letters of recommendation, you can add them too! Anything that will make us go "wow, they're the one!". PDF format is highly appreciated. :) What we're focusing on is how well your application fits the job and the team; we don't look at your race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age or disability status. We simply like humans. Then, we need some time to gather and review the applications. It usually lasts up to 2 weeks; if it takes more, we will let you know. We're always getting back to our applicants, even if the answer is negative. After getting a positive response, you'll get a survey to fill. If everything goes well, we will arrange an online interview and if that goes well, we will arrange all the details and set you up with everything you need at your home so that you can become #oneofus. That's it! TA DA! WHAT IS THIS "ŁÓDŹ" PLACE YOU KEEP REFERRING TO THOUGH? It's a beautiful, fun, and rapidly developing city. It's filled to the brim with students and smart people, boasts the best Polish film school, some of the best Polish technical schools, and a mean aptitude for crazy creative endeavors. The quality of life here is amazing, prices for everything are basically negligible, and the people are fun, laid back, and great to hang out with. We love it here. We're sure you will too. This job is a full-time remote position. When COVID/travel allows, visits to the main office in Lodz are required, perhaps max 4 (ish) times per year as needed. This is all very flexible. A full relocation package is always available if you want to move to Łódź, we’d love to have you. Really. It's great. We (used to) travel a lot. We've been to a bunch of places around the world. We still like it most here in Łódź. Everything's developing, people are friendly, more and more cool stuff pops up every single year. SOUNDS COOLS. WHO'D I BE WORKING WITH? The team at SUPERHOT HQ is roughly 35-ish people strong right now. It's a happy collection of driven individuals with hobbies ranging from mixed martial arts and hugging people, through card games, music, arts, and startups. We also have remote friends in the UK, Australia, Netherlands and Philippines. We work a bit, play a bit and keep the team healthy and happy to build great games. Learn more about and apply to this role at https://workwithindies.com/careers/superhot-head-of-community-communication --- If you know someone that might be a good fit for this role or simply wish to signal boost the developer and their game, please show some love to this post on Twitter.
